Clubs and Societies Ball 2018

UL’s annual clubs and societies ball took place in the Radisson hotel in Limerick on Thursday the 15^th of March. The hotel broached a savvy atmosphere, with students and staff dressed to impress in what is one of the biggest events on the student calendar.

The event itself was black tie, which meant suits for the gentleman and ballgown for the ladies.

A prosecco reception greeted the partygoers as they entered the hotel, followed shortly by a three-course meal, ass tastes catered for. The awards ceremony is arguably the most anticipated event on the C&S calendar as members of clubs and socs strive to win one of the prestigious titles.

The award for Best Overall Society fell to Computer Society.

The Best Society Individual fell to Conor Walsh from the Science Society, while the best Society Event went to The Cock & Plucker, a play put on by the Drama society.

The society which took the award for New & Improved Society was ULFM, with Declan Mills from ULFM also taking the Mike Sandler award for Outstanding Society.

Outdoor Pursuits Club took Best Overall Club in the Club Awards, with Aislinn Sunderland, from Outdoor Pursuits taking the award for Club Individual. The Club Event award was also run by the Outdoor Pursuits Club, with Scotland Trip taking first prize.

The award for New & Improved Club was given to the Sub Aqua Club, and the Jason Hackett (Outstanding Club) award was given to Fern Chaiyasithn from WindSports.

Other mentionable events at this year’s awards included the announcement that Declan Aherne, Head of Counselling would be retiring and that Liz Gabbett will be moving on from her role as Democracy Development Manager.
